Russian mobile operator MTS successfully used iBwave Design to plan, design, deploy and manage modern high density and high capacity wireless networks for the WorldCup in Russia

MONTREAL, Canada, 06-Jul-2018 — /EPR INTERNET NEWS/ — iBwave, the global standard for designing multi-technology in-building networks announced today that MTS, the leading telecommunications group in Russia, has successfully used iBwave Design to plan, design, deploy and manage modern high density and high capacity wireless networks for the 2018 Soccer tournament.

One of the main challenges during a major event like this is to be ready for the massive data demands put forward by excited fans using multiple devices in a stadium’s complex environment. To enable a fast, reliable fan experience during the 2018 Soccer, MTS Russia leveraged iBwave Design’s planning, propagation and capacity modelling features to quickly deliver one the largest deployments of Massive MIMO in Europe to date. iBwave Design was used to successfully plan and deploy high capacity networks for the following stadiums and surrounding areas: Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow (capacity: 80,000), Spartak Stadium, Moscow (capacity 45000), Rostov Arena Rostov-on-Don (capacity 45000) and Kazan Arena, Kazan (capacity 45000).

Through iBwave’s ability to design mobile networks in large complex venues such as stadiums, operators like MTS can create the ultimate wireless experiences by meeting the demands of a large number of people at a specific time without compromising on speed and quality. There is no margin for error in such an environment when the service is needed then and there without any disruption. Many players are needed to create this experience and iBwave’s design capability ties this all together. With iBwave on its team, MTS was able to deliver a great end user experience by leveraging design features such as signal and capacity modeling right down to inclined surfaces, complex architecture and body-loss calculations when the stadium is filled to capacity.

“It is always difficult to predict mobile consumer needs in high density, high capacity environments- particularly for a world class sporting event such this, where thousands of sports fans are simultaneously using multiple devices across multiple technologies,” says Seth Roy, Vice President Product Line Management at iBwave. “Based on our experience of connecting major sporting events such as past World Cups and the Olympics, our tools are the ideal choice to prepare for the huge amounts of data requirements during the 2018 World Cup. We are proud to support MTS in this project and extremely excited to be part of the design and deployment of Europe’s largest Massive MIMO experiences”, he added.

More than 3 million spectators are estimated to watch the games live during this month-long event, which is underway until July 15th.

Worldwide Roaming Information A Fraction Of The Usual Cost Thanks To Abroadband

Abroadband have become one of the few operators who offer roaming broadband at extremely low rates when compared to well known providers. Users can gain access to the internet for only €0.59 per megabyte. This flat rate global data roaming service has attracted many travellers to change their sim card when abroad. Until worldwide regulation is introduced to force other providers to lower their prices, abroadband will march ahead and gain more custom.

The operator began life earlier this year and looks set to post a healthy profit come the end of 2011. Abroadband was launched by Austrian telecoms giant ‘Telekoms Austria’. The idea was in response to the many complaints by travellers fed up with high data charges when using the internet abroad – hence the name ‘abroadband’. From the get go the service has been designed to counter ever increasing charges on roaming rates imposed by many other operators.

A revealing article that was published by the online magazine ZDnet in March this year showed that the reasons behind high data charges are simply down to profit. As many operators tend to offer many deals and bolt-ons in the domestic markets, many tend to take advantage of the unregulated roaming sector to gain back money. The reaction to this has led to new regulations being introduced in Europe that impose a cap on the amount of data customers can use in a month when travelling. This only applies to countries throughout the EU and abroadband offer their flat rate outside of Europe. So far the service extends to over 50 countries world wide and there are plans to increase this to more by the end of 2011 and into 2012.

Negative reaction to roaming rates outside of Europe has led to calls for other continents and countries to impose caps on other operators to force them to reduce their data charges. Abroadband has already left the competition behind though. The flat rate service is not the only benefit they offer customers. Being aware of the different ways people access the internet, the operator has offered three simple options to meet all connection needs. A worldsim card, a micro sim card and a dongle are all available on initial subscription to the service. With business travel on the increase, dongles and micro sims are becoming more popular. The BBC recently published a report on their website illustrating the different ways people are using to avoid roaming headaches when travelling (source: BBC). Abroadband have taken these methods into consideration and have acted accordingly on their website allowing customers access to connection options to suit their needs.

SEO Experts QueryClick Welcome Skype Subsidised Wi-Fi Hotspots For Internet Week

Internet Week began in New York City in 2008, and incorporated over 250 events last year. 2010 sees the première of the five-day festival in Europe, with the schedule of events to take place throughout London. It is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, and is open to any willing company eager to participate in this celebration of the digital industry in Europe.

Running from the 8th – 12th November, the festival, boasting over 80 events, will be enhanced by the announcement that Skype will be subsidising free Wi-Fi access throughout the UK for the duration of the event via the Skype Access service.

Commenting on the relationship between Skype and the Internet Week Europe, Co-Chairman David-Michel Davis said:

“What better way to celebrate that impact than partnering with Skype to make the Internet more accessible than ever.”

It certainly does show a commitment on Skype’s part to further the accessibility of the internet in public places, albeit for the 5 days of the festival only. SEO Experts QueryClick view the provision of free access as a hugely positive addition to the Internet Week event, insisting that:

“It makes sense that internet access in public spaces should be offered for free in accordance with the principles of the event, and the celebratory nature of the festival.”

The availability of free internet access to all in the UK increases the reach of the week of talks, conferences, challenges, and debates to all those outwith the London perimeters. The inclusion of big name brands such as Google, BBC, Yahoo!, and Lonely Planet ensures that the event will be a highly popular one, luring in the crowds with the crop of digital celebrity.

Free 20Mb/s Broadband Boost By BT

BT has announced that millions of homes and businesses are set to enjoy a free broadband boost as BT will more than double the headline speeds for its residential and business customers.

broadband

Given BT is the UK’s largest retailer of broadband with 4.8 million customers, the move, which comes in advance of Lord Carter’s Digital Britain Report, will lead to an increase in average broadband speeds.

Over 60,000 consumers already have the faster speeds through a BT trial and the upgrade to ADSL 2+ technology will be available to other homes in the summer. BT Retail broadband customers already enjoy speeds of up to 8Mb/s. The plans will see consumers and business in enabled areas receive faster speeds of up to 20Mb/s as part of their broadband service at no extra cost.

Based on BT’s 21CN platform, the faster speeds will initially be available from 549 telephone exchanges, serving more than 40% of UK homes and businesses. BT plans to extend that coverage to 55% by March 2010 subject to customer demand.

As well as boosting download speeds, upload speeds will increase to up to 1Mb/s. The faster service will enable customers to surf, upload or download data in a fraction of the time, even when several users are on the same connection. This means less waiting around for complex web pages to download and graphics to upload. It is also good news for BT Business Broadband customers looking to use rich media or boost their websites.

BT research has shown that one of the major causes of slower broadband speeds lies in customers’ home wiring. To address this, BT is also set to offer the BT Broadband Accelerator (BT I-Plate) that eliminates electrical interference from telephone-extension wiring, and can improve broadband speeds and reliability. BT will be giving away the devices free to consumers (subject to £2.50 P&P) and businesses that are likely to benefit. Crucially, this will mean more customers with marginal broadband speeds will exceed the 2Mb/s threshold required to benefit from the full range of new internet services, something Lord Carter’s report is set to address.

Gavin Patterson, chief executive officer, BT Retail said “Unlike other providers, BT is upgrading customers to 20Mb/s for free. High-speed broadband provides a faster and more reliable service that will transform the way we live, work, learn and play. We believe the true value of broadband is in helping customers enjoy the exciting new services that it makes possible. In line with the Government’s Digital Britain review, we will be making higher speeds more widely available.”

In a separate move, BT Retail will begin the first trials of up to 40Mb/s super-fast fibre-based broadband in Whitchurch, South Wales and Muswell Hill, London this summer. Openreach is already delivering speeds of up to 100Mb/s to customers in the Ebbsfleet Valley in Kent, using fibre-to-the-premise (FTTP) technology.

New or re-contracting BT Business Broadband and BT Total Broadband customers in an enabled exchange area will automatically be eligible for the ADSL2+ service at no additional cost. The new ADSL2+ service will be available to business users from the initial launch, and non-business customers from early summer. The BT Business Total Broadband tariff remains the same and includes BT Openzone Wi-Fi minutes.
